Bursary cheques worth Ksh 3M uncollected in Imenti Central

By John Majau

Imenti Central MP Moses Kirima has raised concerns over the uncollected bursary cheques amounting to more than Ksh 3 million.

He said the cheques remain uncollected at the Imenti Central Constituency Development Fund (CDF) office with some applications dating back to January 2020.

The MP said those who applied for the bursaries did not collect the cheques noting such a thing has never happened before.

He said that his team has already launched investigations in a bid to establish the reasons behind the abnormal occurrence.

Speaking at the CDF offices when he issued bursary cheques worth Ksh 20 million, Kirima said all the uncollected cheques have been cancelled and the money reallocated to other needy children.

He said following the occurrence the bursary committee has resolved that cheques will henceforth be taken directly to the benefiting schools.

“We explained the matter to the auditors after they raised queries over the uncollected cheques. Honestly there is no need of supporting those who can afford to educate their children while the needy are left to suffer. That is why I have given the committee strict instructions that they should do due diligence before awarding bursaries to ensure that only the needy learners benefit,” said Kirima.
