A wave of approval has swept across post-primary institutions in Bungoma County following the Teachers Service Commission’s (TSC) decisive move to cancel the promotion of teachers deemed unqualified.

A cross-section of teachers, who requested anonymity for fear of reprisal, hailed the Commission’s action as a long-overdue step toward restoring integrity and meritocracy within the teaching profession.

“Many of us have waited for years while watching undeserving individuals rise through questionable means,” said one senior teacher. “The Commission’s bold stance renews our faith in a fair and transparent system.”

But even as the dust begins to settle, fresh allegations are emerging of forged documents being used to secure acting positions. According to insiders, several individuals have allegedly secured roles such as Acting Principal and Acting Deputy Principal without receiving formal appointment letters, to obtain permanent promotions through falsified credentials.

The revelations have sparked concern and outrage among educators in the region, prompting calls for immediate intervention.

“This is a ticking time bomb,” warned a deputy headteacher from one of the affected institutions. “If left unchecked, it will compromise the credibility of the entire promotion process.”

Teachers are now urging the TSC to direct County Directors to submit verified and authentic letters of appointment for those who have legitimately served in acting capacities before any further promotion letters are released. They argue that such a move would preempt fraudulent advancement and uphold professional standards within the sector.

“There must be no shortcuts,” emphasised another educator. “Only those with documented, genuine acting appointments should be considered. Anything less is an insult to the profession.”

The unfolding developments are expected to elicit strong reactions as stakeholders across the education sector await the Commission’s next move.
