Bungoma schools emerge winners in Western regional games

Bungoma county has emerged the best in the Western Kenya Secondary schools term one games that were held in Busia county.

Bungoma topped with 105 points followed by Kakamega with 79 points. Busia who were the hosts finished third with 71 points while Vihiga finished fourth with 66 points.

Friends School Kamusinga will represent Western region at the nationals in basketball Boys after beating Sigalame Boys from Busia County 55 points against 52 in a highly charged final played at St. Mary’s secondary school in Matayos constituency.

Butere Girls won the girls basketball after beating Tigoi from Vihiga County 82-50.

Butula Boys rugby beat Vihiga 12-7 in the finals. Butula had been beaten by Koyonzo Boys from Kakamega county in first semi but appealed against Koyonzo who were dismissed from the sports by the games association after it was determined that it had fielded some players who were not students against the games rules according to the Western region secondary school sports association chairperson Martin Waswa, “Butula Boys appealed and they produced enough evidence against Koyonzo. A decision was made to dismiss Koyonzo and Butula allowed to play the finals.”

Musingu Boys from Kakamega will represent the region in hockey and handball Boys, Tigoi Girls from Vihiga in hockey Girls, while Moi Girls Kamusinga will represent it in handball Girls.

The national finals will be held at Hill School and Moi Girls Eldoret from April 21 to April 30.
