The Principal of Mitua Girls Secondary School in Tongaren Sub-county, Bungoma County, has been relieved of her duties as the KCSE examination centre manager following allegations of exam malpractice.
According to the reports, Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) officials reportedly detected irregular activities during the administration of Kiswahili Paper 3 on Tuesday. According to sources within the monitoring team, the anomalies were serious enough to warrant immediate intervention by the education authorities.
The school’s principal was consequently dropped from her position as the centre manager, alongside the deputy principal, supervisors, invigilators, and security officers who were on duty during the paper.
The move was sanctioned by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) Sub-county Director, who expressed deep disappointment over the conduct of the school principal and her team, describing their actions as a betrayal of public trust and professional ethics.
The entire examination team has since been replaced to ensure the smooth continuation of the national examinations at the centre.
Investigations are currently underway to determine the extent of the malpractice and identify any other individuals who may have been involved.

Education officials have emphasized that the government maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward exam cheating.
They warned that anyone found culpable—whether teachers, candidates, or security personnel—will face immediate suspension, deregistration, or prosecution.
KNEC has further assured candidates and parents that stringent monitoring measures remain in place nationwide to safeguard the credibility of the ongoing examinations.
The incident adds to growing concerns over isolated cases of exam irregularities reported in some centres across the country, even as authorities continue to tighten oversight to protect the integrity of the KCSE examinations.
