Learners and all other stakeholders, including team coaches and fans participating in the Term Two Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) Games, Bungoma County Chapter, have been urged to uphold a high level of discipline during the sporting competitions being held at Bungoma Boys High School grounds and other nearby learning institutions.

Addressing various stakeholders during the official opening ceremony of the KSSSA Games at Bungoma Boys High School, the County Director Of Education, Pius Ng’oma, noted that the games are only meant for eligible students; hence, no amount of hooliganism or interference will be allowed, noting that anyone found it will be dealt with according to the Kenyan law.

According to Ng’oma, Bungoma County has consistently produced the best teams in the region, up to the national level, and even at the East African Games, and he hopes this year will not be an exception.

I call upon all Referees to be vigilant and fair during this County Games since Bungoma may even have a chance to host either the opening or closing ceremony for the national competitions due to our best-performing teams,” noted Ng’oma.

On his part, the Bungoma County KUPPET Branch Executive Secretary, Augustine Kundu Luketelo, reiterated that Coaches should only use students to play games and hence avoid fielding any outsiders to prevent the chief principals from being punished or even teams from being banned by the Disciplinary Tribunal under the Ministry of Education.

Luketelo also hinted that each referee and other officials have been allocated an allowance of Kshs 3000 per day, urging them to avoid match-fixing scandals due to Low pay, as experienced during last year’s KSSSA Games.

He also used the occasion to urge teachers in KUPPET to continue supporting his Leadership, noting that he intends to defend his Executive Secretary General Seat in the 2026 Elections.

Also Present was Bungoma County KUPPET Chairman Mr David Barasa, and Mr Toili Khisa, Principal of Bungoma Boys High School said that Students should avoid engaging in Drugs cum Substance Abuse, warning that any fan found peddling Drugs to the learners will be arrested and charged as per the Law.

The Bungoma County KSSSA Chairperson, Florence Mukangula, said that Two Teams each in boys’ soccer, girls’ football, and four in rugby, plus other Games like volleyball and netball, will qualify to represent the county in the Western Regionals Competitions.

In the opening match, the Brenda Girls Football Team from Webuye West crushed Marobo Girls from Bungoma Central Sub-County, two goals to nil.

Also present during the game’s launch were Bungoma County KESSHA Chairman Edward Bikala, Bokoli Ward MCA Jack Kawa, and his Mukuyuni Ward counterpart Meshack Museveni, among other education sector stakeholders.

The Bungoma County KSSA Games are scheduled to conclude on June 14, 2025.
