A leading primary school in Bungoma town is in dire need of extra classrooms following high enrollment under the 100 per cent transition policy.
Bungoma D.E.B Primary School urgently requires Sh25 million to build 30 more classrooms to ease congestion of 3,212 pupils.
Tobias Khisa, the school head teacher, decried the sorry state of classrooms where one classroom is accommodating more than 100 pupils.
“Even a teacher can’t move to attend to a pupil
while in classroom due to lack of space,” said Khisa.
The school head highlighted the need for well-wishers and other stakeholders
to partner with the school in the mobilization of funds for the construction of
decent classrooms.
The school, in Bungoma South Sub-county, emerged among top ten in the county in last year’s KCPE examination, posting a mean of 310.
A total of 12 of its pupils joined national schools
and over 250 extra county schools. In last year exam it had registered 404
candidates.
“We only have 60 TSC teachers, we need more to effectively implement the new
education curriculum,” he said.
It is the school with higher enrolment in Bungoma County.
