Bungoma High School clinched the Western Region Rugby 15s title after edging out Kakamega School 12-7 in a tightly contested final marked by discipline and resilience from both sides.
The match lived up to its billing, with Bungoma High capitalising on early opportunities to take control before holding off a determined Kakamega side. Despite a spirited response that saw Kakamega narrow the gap, Bungoma’s defensive organisation and game management in the closing stages secured the victory.
In the girls’ handball final, Moi Girls Kamusinga retained their regional crown after defeating Butere Girls 21-18 in a closely fought encounter. The match was evenly balanced for long stretches, but Kamusinga’s composure in decisive moments enabled them to pull through and defend their title successfully.
The boys’ handball category produced a major upset, with Musingu School overcoming defending national and East Africa champions St. Luke Kimilili Boys in the final. The result brought an end to Kimilili’s dominance and signalled a shift in the competitive landscape of the sport within the region.
Bungoma County dominates
Friends School Kamusinga emerged as the new Western Region hockey champions after defeating three-time KSSA champions Musingu School 3-1 in the final. The victory ended Musingu’s reign and underscored Kamusinga’s growing strength in hockey.
In basketball, Friends School Kamusinga continued its impressive run by defeating Nambale Boys in the final to secure the regional title, completing a successful campaign across multiple disciplines.

The outcomes highlight Bungoma County’s strong presence in school sports, with its institutions delivering standout performances across rugby, handball, hockey, and basketball.
