Bungoma ECDE teachers urged to embrace professionalism in nurturing young learners

Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) teachers in Bungoma have been challenged to approach their roles with renewed vigor, unwavering commitment, and a heightened sense of duty, as the county intensifies efforts to enhance foundational learning.

Speaking during a professional development forum at Bumula FYM Church in Bumula Sub-County, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education and Vocational Training, Eng. Agnes Wachiye, underscored the pivotal role ECDE educators play in shaping the intellectual and moral fabric of future generations.

“Teaching at the early childhood level is not merely an occupation—it is a vocation,” said Eng. Wachiye. “You are the cornerstone of a child’s academic journey. The principles and skills you embed at this stage will echo throughout their lives and ultimately influence the society we are building.”

The forum, attended by dozens of ECDE practitioners from across the sub-county, focused on bolstering instructional capacity, adopting learner-centered pedagogies, and integrating contemporary teaching strategies.

Eng. Wachiye called on the teachers to prioritize holistic child development, particularly in fostering communication skills, self-confidence, and emotional intelligence among learners.

She also encouraged them to serve as ambassadors for vocational education by actively promoting.
