Bungoma DEB and Christ the King Junior Schools have posted outstanding performance in the recently released Kenya Junior School Education
Assessment (KJSEA), placing the institutions among the top-performing junior schools in Bungoma County.
The Education Cabinet Secretary, Julius Migamba Migos, announced the results.
Addressing the media at Bungoma DEB School on Friday, headteacher Tobias Khisa said the school had registered its strongest performance in recent
years, crediting the success to teamwork and sustained support from all stakeholders.
“The results reflect the collective effort of our teachers, learners, parents and local leaders. This partnership has been key to our success, and we are determined to raise the bar even higher in future assessments,” Khisa said.
He explained that the KJSEA grading framework categorises candidates into Exceeding Expectations (EE), Meeting Expectations (ME), Approaching Expectations (AE) and Below Expectations (BE), with further subdivisions of EE1, EE2, ME1, ME2, AE1, AE2, BE1 and BE2. The assessment is graded out of a maximum of 72 points.
According to the results, 20 Bungoma DEB candidates attained the top EE1 grade. Three learners scored 70 points, eight scored 69 points, and nine scored 68 points.

A further 186 learners were placed in the EE2 category after scoring between 59 and 67 points. In total, 206 candidates from the school fell under the Exceeding Expectations bracket.
Another 225 learners met the examiners’ expectations, with 148 classified under ME1 and 77 under ME2. Fifty-five candidates were graded under Approaching Expectations, including 46 in AE1 and nine in AE2.
The school presented 486 candidates for the KJSEA, with none scoring in the Below Expectations category.
“Our analysis shows that more than 75 per cent of our candidates scored above the Meeting Expectations level, an indicator of consistent academic growth,” Khisa said.
Christ the King Junior School, Bungoma, also recorded commendable results. Among the top performers was Banice Maryanne, who scored 69 points.
Speaking to journalists at her Sinoko home, Maryanne said Mathematics and Integrated Science were her strongest subjects, attributing her success to the guidance of her teachers and the support of her parents.
She said she hopes to pursue the two subjects at senior secondary level, adding that Loreto Girls remains her school of choice.
