Bumula Constituency MP has launched the third phase of the Lunch Programme for Class 8 candidates, further cementing his commitment towards boosting education standards in the area.

Speaking during the official launch at Mungore Primary School grounds in Khasoko Ward, MP Jack Wanami Wamboka stated that the primary goal of the initiative, funded by the Hon. Wamboka Foundation, is to eradicate absenteeism among candidates and ensure ample preparation time for national exams.

He noted that the Foundation has invested Ksh.8 million in the first term, Ksh.10 million in the second term, and Ksh5 million in the third term.

Wamboka added that the funds will also ensure the provision of 450 90-kilogramme bags of maize and 200 bags of beans to students in public primary schools across Bumula and Kimaeti sub-counties.

The MP further pledged to utilize the NG-CDF kitty to upgrade area schools’ infrastructure.

He also assured that no head teacher in Junior Secondary Schools (JSSs) will be demoted due to lacking a bachelor’s degree.

Wamboka was flanked by several legislators including Didmus Barasa of Kimilili constituency, Peter Oscar Nabulindo of Matungu and Kakai Bisau of Kiminini constituency; who lauded the feeding programme, emphasizing its importance in boosting education standards and promised to advocate for increased budgetary allocations through the National Assembly.

Misikhu Ward MCA Millie Masungo stated that bursaries alone are insufficient to cater to students’ needs and called on parents to work harder to provide fees which will complement the government’s efforts.

South Bukusu Ward MCA Sudi Busolo highlighted the need for Chiefs to ban night vigils (disco matanga) which have contributed to the high rate of teenage pregnancies and poor academic performance.

Also in attendance were KESSHA officials and area Principals who noted that they are targeting a mean score of 4.5 in this year’s KCSE examination.
