A brilliant boy from Budalang’i, Busia County who scored 375 marks in KCPE last year has been forced into charcoal business to raise money to enable him join Nyangori Boys High School in Vihiga County.
Narrating his predicament to Education News at their Namalo home, Patrick Otieno Ojiambo, 16, said his parents are too poor to even gather a small fraction of the Ksh85,000 required.
“My parents cannot raise the required school fees to the tune of Ksh85,000. This has prompted me to burn charcoal, which I sell to local consumers in an effort to raise part of the fees,” said Ojiambo.
The boy’s mother Judith Awino said despite the fear of where the money would come from, she never stopped encouraging the boy to work hard.
Namalo Primary School head teacher Maria Were confirmed that the family is indeed in dire need of financial support, revealing that they have had to regularly raise money for Ojiambo to get some necessities.
She also appealed to any well-wisher to volunteer and pay the required fees for the disciplined and hardworking boy.
