Parents asked to use holidays to instill morals in children

Parents have been urged to be near their children and guide them during the short April holiday.

Keroka town Senior Chief Kennedy Ndege said teachers do good work in schools in moulding learners to achieve academic excellence and expect parents to supplement their efforts by guiding their children in character development.

The chief asked parents to discourage their children from using mobile phones in wrong ways like watching pornography because they such contents divert their minds from concentration in their studies.

“Parents should be closer to their children so as to understand the challenges they face and guide them appropriately,” he said.

Ndege who talked to Education News at his Keroka town office advised students against staying in or near social places like bars because they expose themselves to wrong habits like betting and alcohol drinking.

He also asked them form study groups among themselves instead staying idle.  He as well cautioned parents and children against falling victims to scammers in the social media platforms who disguise as charity organisations officials giving donations.

He assured the residents of improved security in the town but regretted that there were a few commotions recently during the county boundary disagreement between Nyamira and Kisii residents and thanked the court for the verdict that has led to tranquility in the town.
