Lesly Opondo, a 14-year-old student, the top performer at Farther Walstra Academy in Bungoma County, with 418 marks in KCPE has revealed his dream of becoming an engineer.
Speaking to the press, Opondo said that he has set his sights on Maseno School, where he plans to pursue a course in engineering at the university level.
“The secret to my great performance lies in hard work and maintaining a good relationship with others in the school,” he stated.
Despite his success, Opondo expressed his commitment to maintaining high academic standards throughout his secondary education, urging his parents to continue supporting him in his academic journey.
“I plead with my parents to continue supporting me so that even in Form Four, I can achieve good grades and proceed to a reputable university to pursue my engineering course,” he said.
Ashley Rasoa, another high achiever at the same school who scored 410 marks, expressed gratitude to teachers, parents, and fellow candidates for their support.
She revealed her ambition to join Kenya High School and pursue a career in law after completing her secondary education.
Jacob Mukami, the head teacher of Fr. Walstra Academy Primary School, credited the stellar results to teamwork and discipline.
He called on the Ministry of Education to consider placing students from private schools in national schools of their choice, citing instances where private candidates missed out on securing slots in their preferred secondary schools.
Mukami also addressed the issue of student relaxation in secondary school, cautioning incoming Form One students against complacency despite scoring higher marks.
He emphasized the need for continued hard work to maintain academic excellence.
Reflecting on the school’s performance, Mukami highlighted the significant improvement from the previous year.
With 38 candidates presented for the KCPE exams, six students scored 400 marks and above, with Lesly Opondo leading the pack at 418 marks.
Looking ahead, Mukami expressed the school’s commitment to working even harder to secure the top position in the region and nationally.
