Boost for CBC in Kiambu as eight schools get musical instruments

By Felix Wanderi

Eight primary schools within Kiambu constituency have benefitted from musical instruments worth Shs 8 million donated by Giving Exchange Donors from the United States of America (USA) through the intervention of area MP Jude Njomo.

The move is a bid to boost the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC).

The equipment donated will see pupils from grade four engaged in lessons to tap musical talents in them.

“We are doing this in the spirit of embracing the CBC. We realized that our children might be good academically but they could also do better in their God given talents. We want to expose them to as many opportunities as we can,’’ said Njomo.

Njomo said that music is one of the opportunities that they want to tap into and that the NG-CDF was able to procure recorders.

‘I have been amazed that pupils are able to master and play recorded music. In a year’s time, we are sure that our children will be able to play the instruments effectively,” said Njomo.

He noted that there are many people who have excelled in life through realizing their God given talents and exploiting them.

“We want to show our children that they can use their talents to make a living. We started by issuing the equipment to eight schools but our plan is to ensure that all schools in the constituency get a set of musical instruments and have music classes,” He said.

Njomo added that through the NG-CDF, they have been able to build a swimming pool, basketball and tennis courts, introduce dance classes, kung fu lessons, golfing lessons and music lessons in schools.

He further added that the schools are now teaching Chinese language.

He added that he is more focused on providing a conducive learning environment for pupils and students and that he has built six new day secondary schools so as to help in the implementation of the 100% transition policy in schools.

‘CBC is the best model as it has made pupils appreciate education,’ he said.

Teachers at the schools said that  the pupils who have taken up music classes have started exuding confidence even in their academic performance.
