The Embu County Government has acquired various fire-fighting gear for all 26 Vocational Training Centers (VTCs) to boost fire disaster readiness.

The equipment, which includes carbon dioxide, foam, and powder extinguishers, fire signs, blankets, and first aid kits, aims to enable swift responses to fire incidents at these institutions.

“This proactive step will ensure our VTCs manage and put out minor fires before they escalate,” stated Daniel Ngeranwa, the County Executive Committee Member CECM for Education.

While receiving the equipment from Dejofil Fire Safety Limited, Ngeranwa noted that two staff members from each VTC underwent firefighting training conducted by the company.

The two-day training held last December covered crucial areas such as emergency communication, fire prevention, and suppression techniques.

Ephantus Mugendi, the County Chief Officer for TVET, emphasized that the equipment would significantly enhance safety in the learning centres, where fire hazards pose a significant risk.

“Fire safety in our VTCs is critical, and this initiative will ensure our students learn in a secure environment,” he said.

Franklin Korir, the lead fire technician and trainer from Dejofil Fire Safety Limited, expressed confidence in the county’s preparedness for fire emergencies, thanks to the training and equipment provided.

The company will also install the firefighting gear in strategic areas within the institutions.
