BOMs urged to counsel pregnant girls

Nakuru Women Rep Liza Chelule has directed the school’s Board of Management to ensure that the expectant girls who are still in school undergo counseling sessions.

Chelule also told parents whose girls have delivered to take care of their young ones in order to allow them go back to school.

“The teenage girls who have delivered are very young to take care of their infants. I therefore call on parents to be responsible and look after the newborns in order to give way for the young girls to resume their studies,” said Chelule.

Speaking at St Brendan’s Secondary School in Molo Sub County when she distributed lockers and desks, Chelule said the government needs to disburse funds that will cater for the counseling of these learners.

More than 25 groups benefited from the National Government Affirmative Action Funds (NGAAF) under the docket of Chelule.

Some of the groups that benefited from the funds include shoes cobbler, Mama Mboga traders, the youths (football teams), hairdressers, and barbers among others.

Meanwhile Kuresoi North Deputy County Commissioner Felix Watakila has said he will ensure that teen mothers go back to school without fail.

“I call girls who are either pregnant or have given birth to report back to school. The head teachers too should allow them to continue learning until they deliver since it is their right,” said Mr Wetakila,
