Bomet County handball champions Siwot Secondary School have made their intentions clear as they launched their title defense in emphatic fashion, following a convincing 14–7 victory over Longisa mixed secondary school during the Longisa sub-zonal secondary schools games held in Bomet East Sub County.

The win sent a strong message to rivals as Siwot seek to retain the county title for a fourth consecutive time, a milestone that would further cement their dominance in the sport within the county.

Displaying tactical discipline, solid defense and sharp counter-attacks, Siwot proved too strong for Longisa Mixed, who struggled to match their experience and composure.

Siwot’s journey to the final saw them brush aside Kapsimbiri Secondary School 14–7 in the semi-finals.

In the other semi-final encounter, Longisa Mixed edged out their neighbours Longisa Boys High School 11–8 in a tightly contested match to book their place in the final.

Speaking after the final match, Siwot head coach Zephania Mibei expressed confidence in his team’s preparation and form, noting that the players are fully focused on defending their county crown and pushing beyond previous achievements.

“Our preparations have been thorough, and the boys are highly motivated,” said Mibei.

The seasoned coach added that the team recently gained valuable exposure after competing in a competitive handball tournament in Kericho, where they finished second. According to Mibei, the experience significantly boosted the team’s confidence and sharpened their tactical execution.

“That competition helped us improve our decision-making and understand our strengths better,” he said.

Mibei further revealed that Siwot’s ambitions extend well beyond the sub-zonal stage, with the team targeting qualification for the national secondary schools’ championships. Last season, Siwot reached the quarter-finals of the Rift Valley Secondary Schools Games, experience the coach believes will be crucial this time round.

“We learned a lot from last year’s Rift Valley games. Our goal now is to qualify for nationals and make a strong statement,” he added.

With momentum building, all eyes will be on Siwot Secondary School as they aim to maintain their winning tradition and keep their national dream alive.
