Bomet teachers have condoled with the family of  Edward Too, the Deputy Principal of Kapkilaibei Secondary School, whose body was found floating in River Itare in Konoin Sub-County on Tuesday afternoon.

Led by the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers, (KUPPET) Bomet Gender Secretary Norah Cherukwen, said his death is a big blow to the teaching fraternity

Cherukwen described the late Too as a dedicated, humble, and selfless teacher who left a lasting impact on both students and colleagues through his commitment to education and mentorship.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Mr. Too. He was a devoted teacher and a source of inspiration to many within the education fraternity. His kindness, professionalism, and passion for his work will be greatly missed,” said Cherukwen.

This comes after Bomet County Police Commander Robinson Imbwaga confirmed the incident saying the 49-year-old teacher’s body was discovered near the River Itare Bridge, about eight kilometres east of Konoin Police Station.

According to a police report filed under OB18/21/10/2025 at 12:38 p.m., Koiwa Location Chief Emily Koech alerted authorities after spotting the body floating downstream. Police officers from Konoin, accompanied by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), visited the scene and confirmed the death.

Imbwaga said the body, which bore no visible injuries, was retrieved, photographed, and moved to Kapkatet Sub-County Hospital Mortuary for preservation pending an autopsy. He added that preliminary reports indicated the deceased had been missing since Saturday, October 18, 2025, and that his wife, Sarah Too, had earlier filed a missing person report at Konoin Police Station.

Following the incident, Cherukwen challenged teachers who may be struggling silently with personal, family, or work-related issues to come forward and seek help, instead of suffering in isolation.

“We are losing too many colleagues to stress, depression, and emotional struggles. It is time we break the silence. I urge KUPPET and the Ministry of Education to establish a mental health support desk in every sub-county to help teachers access counseling and professional assistance,” she said.

The County Police Commander confirmed that DCI Konoin has since launched investigations to determine the exact cause of death.
