Motorists in Bomet County have been urged to exercise heightened caution on the roads, following a surge in traffic accidents that has left residents concerned and authorities on high alert.
County Police Commander Edward Imbwanga sounded the alarm this week, citing human error as the leading cause of the increasing number of road accidents.
“Most of these accidents are avoidable,” said Imbwanga while addressing the press. “They result from carelessness, speeding, and general disregard for traffic rules. We are urging all road users to take responsibility.”
The police chief also cited poor visibility caused by ongoing rains as an additional risk factor.

“With the heavy rains currently pounding the region, road conditions have deteriorated, and visibility has been greatly reduced,” he said. “Motorists must drive cautiously, especially in high-risk zones, to prevent further loss of life.”
Imbwanga called on travelers and members of the public to play a role in promoting road safety by reporting reckless drivers and vehicles violating traffic regulations.
“Road safety is a collective responsibility,” he stressed. “We must all act to prevent these tragedies by holding each other accountable.”
The warning follows a series of recent accidents in the county. In one incident, a six-year-old girl was hit by a vehicle while crossing the Kaplong–Sotik highway. She is currently receiving treatment at Kaplong Mission Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
Just a day earlier, a middle-aged pedestrian was struck by a speeding vehicle on the Bomet–Longisa highway, further highlighting the urgency of the situation.
Authorities are now urging all road users—drivers, passengers, and pedestrians—to remain vigilant and cooperate fully to reduce the rising number of accidents in the region.
