Teachers of Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) in Bomet County have decried rising workplace tensions under the current school arrangement and are demanding that the government allow them to operate as fully independent institutions.
Led by Bomet KUPPET branch Executive Secretary, Paul Kimetto, the teachers said the lack of autonomy has created unnecessary conflict with primary school staff, lowered teacher morale, and undermined effective education delivery.
Speaking to journalists in Bomet, Kimetto stressed that for the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system to succeed, JSS schools must be given administrative and structural independence.
He explained that autonomy would simplify management, ease tensions, and strengthen accountability, while the current system continues to discourage teachers and cripple the proper implementation of CBE.
