Bodaboda riders warned against reckless riding as schools reopen

As schools reopen for second term this week, bodaboda operators have been urged to cease rushing for customers and instead exhibit and maintain discipline, order and observe traffic rules as they ferry school children.

While addressing the operators in Tala town, Machakos County Bodaboda chairman Joel Mwendwa noted that there are many bodaboda accidents involving school children in the period when schools are reopening.

“I would like to advise you as you ferry these children to school, do not be consumed by greed and hurry to get more customers. Follow traffic rules and ride safely,” said Mwendwa.

He added: “Don’t allow school children to ride your bike and don’t yield to their requests to speed. We remember the recent accident that killed three people including a student because of reckless riding.”

Mwendwa also asked the operators to liaise with security agents in a bid to ensure security in the area.

He also warned them against tampering with evidence in accident scenes.

“Many times accident scenes involving a motorbike and vehicle are tampered with, thus interfering with investigations. Let us work together, before you run away after an accident or even hide your motorbike, please think twice,” he noted.
