Boda-boda operators asked to be careful, stop preying on school girls

The Boda-boda operators from Kisii County have been asked to be more careful when ferrying students from schools during the short holiday break.

Speaking to Education News at his Kisii office, the County Education Board Chairman Prof. Henry Onderi revealed that he had noted the mess done by motorists on the roads and while handling students.

“Some Boda-boda riders carry as many as four students on their motor bikes in high speed without putting on helmets,” he noted.

The chairman asked the traffic police to be on the alert and arrest those who violate traffic rules and let the law follow its course.

He asked various Boda-boda chairmen on several stages to be on guard against school boys who take short contracts to ferry travellers on what they called ‘squad’ contract at the expense of their studies.

He appealed to the community policing and the Nyumba-Kumi groups to arrest any wandering school boys or girls suspected of mischief and produce them to the police.

The chairman blamed parents who bought motorcycles for their sons to indulge in the Boda-boda industry, a practice he said, that lured them to dropping out of school.  He reminded the parents to support their children to achieve quality education because it is the best inheritance any parent can ever give to their children.
