Bishop hails teachers for nurturing talents through co-curricular activities

Catholic Bishop Norman King’oo has hailed teachers for nurturing talents in school going children through co-curricular activities.

Speaking recently, King’oo noted that students should be taught that one does not need to be book-smart only to succeed in life.

He spoke at Holy Spirit Primary schools where he commissioned new classrooms and congratulated students from the school who performed well during the just completed music festivals at national level.

The school had five items for presentation where two of them achieved position three certificates.

He also stressed that the Competence Based Curriculum (CBC) had played a vital role in nurturing the talents.

“Talent has caused a lot of people to build strong careers and make good money such as Eliud Kipchoge and musician Nameless among many others. Let’s not limit these children because they have potential outside the classroom and I am glad because of the teachers who have done their best to not only identify but also nurture talents,” said King’oo.

The Bishop observed that CBC had also helped to develop courage and confidence in students who shall have a different approach to life compared to those who didn’t go through the system.

“They believe in themselves and in the future they will not become push-overs because the curriculum instills a sense of purpose,” he noted.

He challenged parents to be involved in their children’s lives and follow up on how they are faring in school.
