Absence of form one students next year will be a blessing to day secondary schools in Murang’a, as the best 15 per class will get KSh15,000 from the county government.

Governor Irungu Kang’ata said the first 15 students per public school will get KSh15,000 courtesy of the county government.

Speaking in Kihumbu ini, Mugumo ini and Gaturi wards in Gatanga and Kiharu constituencies,  Kang’ata said the amount is to appreciate the best performance.

“We shall be giving KSh15,000 to the best 15 students in form two, three and four, as an incentive to work hard,” said the governor when he addressed public meetings to outline the programmes his administration has rolled out.

In the past two years, the best five at KCPE received KSh15,000 from the county government to assist in joining  secondary  schools.

In the youth empowerment programme,  backed by MCAs Moses Gachui (Kihumbu ini) Alex Wanyoike (Mugumo ini) and Gathee wa Njeri (Gaturi), the governor said Murang’a Youth Service (MYS) has an opportunity  for the youth to provide them with skills.

MYS, he said, has enrolled 3,000 youth in all sub counties with the first batch awaiting results from National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), with another lot acquiring skills in selected polytechnics.

“The third lot of 1,000 is now cleaning the market centres in service to the residents at KSh500 per day,” said the governor.
