Be ready to receive JSS learners, KESSHA told

Secondary school Heads from Busia County have been urged to ensure that the new curriculum being conveyed to them as Junior Secondary School (JSS) is transmitted smoothly.

Addressing the regional meeting of the Kenya Secondary School Heads Association (KESSHA) at a Kisumu hotel, Secretary Mr. Dishon Shihundu said Heads should use the available resources in their respective learning institutions prudently to accommodate the JSS learners.

Shihundu pointed out that the competency-based curriculum was there to stay, hence the need for them to fully embrace it.

He said principals are accounting officers who have to make wise decisions when mobilizing their resources.

Noting that many schools in Busia County still lacked the requisite infrastructure such as desks and latrines, he particularly lamented the inability to cater for children with special needs.

It was further observed that in some places, even teachers lacked basic amenities like proper latrines, and find it hard to travel to work places due to poor road infrastructure.
