Be patient with new higher learning funding model, KUPPET to parents

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education (KUPPET) Executive Secretary for Kisii County Joseph Abincha has asked parents not to worry about the government’s new higher education model.

He said they should be patient and see how it works instead of depending on the rumours that the system will disadvantage students from poor backgrounds.

Abincha who addressed the public in Kisii town held that the government cannot expose parents to harsh financial circumstances as some people were saying.

“The parents should study the instructions of the funding model interpret and comprehend it before crying foul.” He said

The Executive Secretary was reacting to utterances from some politicians who were allegedly inciting ignorant parents to protest against the government over the funding model.

“We are the education watch dogs and we urge our parents to take their children to the University if they find the contrary then we shall join them in seeking the truth.” He appealed

The Unionist asked political leaders not to politicize the matter saying education was a very important and delicate sector that must be handled with care.

He asked last year’s candidates who didn’t attained qualifying marks to for University to join Technical and Vocational Training Institutes to enable them get skills for employment or increase their chances for to further their education.

“Seize the opportunity of the government’s free funding in the TVETs to acquire career skills for sustenance.” He said to the youth.
