The National Assembly Education Committee Chairman Julius Melly has revealed that his committee is in talks with the National Treasury and Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to ensure that the second phase of the 2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) is fully implemented.

The Tinderet Constituency MP, who was speaking during the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Tinderet branch meeting recently, urged the teachers to be a bit patient as the government was working tirelessly to ensure that they honour their promise.

“I want to assure you that there is light at the end of the tunnel. The government appended its signature on the document and there is no way it can refuse to honour it,” he said

Melly further urged the tutors to embrace the culture of saving to guarantee them a stress-free retirement.

“You must make prudent use of your salaries while still in service by joining hands and investing together so that you reap the benefits when you retire,” he said.

His sentiments come a few days after teachers said that they were set to go on strike on August 26, if the government through TSC fails to implement the CBA in full.

KNUT and the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) earlier threatened that teachers will not resume duty if the second phase of the CBA is not implemented.
