Uasin Gishu Governor, Jonathan Bii, has pleaded with parents whose children are undertaking the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) to stay calm as challenges that are being experienced in the new education system are being sorted out.
While speaking to the press recently, Bii noted that since its inception parents have been complaining about the high cost of the new curriculum.
“I understand that parents are not happy with the new curriculum due to the cost implications that come with it. I urge them to remain calm even as the government through the Ministry of Education sorts out the matter,” said Governor Bii.
He noted that the new curriculum faces challenges such as lack of adequate teaching personnel.
However, he noted that before its implementation, CBC needed preparedness, training and capacity building.
The governor added that if challenges persist the 8-4-4 system may be implemented back.
Bii further urged youths to join technical institutions noting that it will help them gain technical skills which will help them get self-employment.
“I want to humbly urge youths and form four leavers to join technical institutions since it provides youth with applicable knowledge and skills. It is easier for a student who has acquired technical skills to get an employment opportunity compared to one who has attended college or university,” the governor remarked.
He insisted the solution to joblessness among the youth is enrolling in technical institutions which have a ready job market.
