Twin sisters Jacinta Kibet and Georgina Jelagat Kibet from Kaptimbor village, Baringo Central, risk missing out on secondary education after failing to raise school fees to join Pemwai Girls Senior School.

The two are among the four per cent of learners yet to transition to Grade 10 due to financial constraints, despite the Ministry of Education reporting a 96 per cent nationwide transition rate as of January 27.

The twins, former pupils of Kaprogonya Junior School, scored 59 and 55 points respectively in the Kenya Junior School assessment and were both selected to join Grade 10. However, they are yet to report to school due to lack of fees and essential school items.

Their father, Thomas Nicholas Kibet, says a well-wisher managed to buy the girls socks and shoes, but the family has been unable to raise money for other requirements, including uniforms and school fees. The total fee required for the two students stands at Sh100,000.

Mr. Kibet relies on irregular manual labour to support his family, while his wife stays at home caring for their young baby. He says the family struggles to meet even basic needs such as food, making it impossible to afford school fees.

As reporting dates pass, the twins remain at home, uncertain whether they will realize their dream of joining Pemwai Girls Senior School a future they worked hard to earn.

The family is appealing to well-wishers and institutions of goodwill to support the girls and ensure they do not miss out on their education.
