Parents in Tiaty, Baringo County, have been urged to prioritise their children’s education as a long-term solution to poverty and insecurity in the region.
Ribkwo MCA Daniel Tuwit said education is a powerful tool that can transform lives and help eliminate banditry and marginalisation, which have long plagued the area.
“Education is the great equaliser. If we want to lift our communities out of poverty and stop the cycle of violence, we must send our children to school,” he said.
Speaking in Tangulbei, he called on the Government to urgently deploy more teachers to Tiaty, saying the region remains understaffed and underserved.
“We have schools with no teachers and others with only one or two. How can we expect meaningful learning under such conditions?” he posed.

He lamented that Tiaty has been neglected for years regarding educational investment, and challenged the devolved unit to take deliberate steps to bridge the gap.
Tuwit highlighted the benefits of education, further stressing that increasing access to education would empower the youth and reduce reliance on cattle rustling and illegal trade.
“A child in Tiaty deserves the same opportunities as one in Nairobi. Let us stop treating education like an option — it is a necessity,” Tuwit added.
Local leaders and education stakeholders at the meeting echoed his sentiments, pledging to mobilise communities and push for more resources to improve learning standards in the region.
