Former Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Baringo Branch Executive Secretary aspirant Dickson Baringo has conceded defeat following the conclusion of the branch elections, calling for unity and continued focus on teachers’ welfare across the county.
In a statement released after the announcement of results, Dickson thanked teachers for participating in the electoral process, describing their engagement as a demonstration of the union’s democratic strength and maturity.
He congratulated the newly elected officials and wished them wisdom and unity as they assume office.
He emphasized that leadership is not confined to positions but is demonstrated through character, service and advocacy for teachers’ rights, urging members to rise above campaign divisions and rally behind one strong KNUT Baringo Branch, committed to fairness, professionalism and dialogue.
Meanwhile, newly elected KNUT Baringo Branch Executive Secretary Kenneth Chelagat outlined his immediate priorities, pledging to lobby for the establishment of a union office to better serve teachers in remote parts of the expansive county.

Chelagat said the proposed office would enhance accessibility to union services, improve response to teachers’ concerns and strengthen engagement with educators working in hard-to-reach areas who often face logistical challenges in accessing union support.
“The goal is to ensure that every teacher, regardless of location, feels represented and supported by KNUT,” Chelagat said, noting that decentralizing services would improve efficiency and inclusivity.
He called for unity among teachers as the new leadership takes office, emphasizing that collaboration and dialogue will be critical in addressing welfare issues and strengthening the union’s voice in county and national education matters.
Dickson welcomed the commitment by the new leadership, reaffirming his readiness to offer constructive ideas and support initiatives that advance teachers’ dignity and rights.
Both leaders stressed that the ultimate beneficiary of the electoral process must be the teacher, particularly those in classrooms across Baringo’s remote regions.
