Baringo honey trader wins Sh1 million Coca-Cola prize, plans to pay son’s university fees

Laurine Jemutai from Koriema, Baringo County, is presented with a dummy cheque of Sh1 million by Coca-Cola officials after winning the Funua Flava promotion.

Baringo County’s first winner of the Sh1 million weekly prize from Coca-Cola has unveiled plans to use the windfall to pay her son’s university fees.

Laurine Jemutai, a honey trader from Koriema village in Marigat, Baringo County,  won the prize in The Coca-Cola’s Funua Flava under the crown promotion launched on August 15, 2025.

Addressing the media after winning the grand prize, she revealed that her son is set to join a university in September this year.

“I didn’t know where the money would come from, so this has truly come at the right time,” she said Joyfully.

Apart from plans to invest in her son’s education and further his studies, she will also invest in business, help her family, and set aside some money for savings.

Jemutai, who was in disbelief when she received the life-changing news, revealed that she had first learned about the promotion on the same day.

She decided to buy her favourite Fanta drink, sent the code under the crown, and was stunned to discover that later she had won the grand prize.

“I was selling honey as usual at Marigat trading centre when the call came. At first, I didn’t believe it. I thought it was just the usual conmen. But after receiving the repeated calls and assurances to confirm the details, it finally sank in that it was real,” she said that when she was officially handed over, a Sh. 1 million cheque at the trading centre.

Overjoyed, Jemutai described her win as a blessing, saying it could not have come at a better time, especially now, during the back-to-school season.

She urged fellow parents to continue participating, as they never know when their turn will come.

“I’m proof that anyone can win and pay school fees to children; your luck could be next,” Jemutai emphasised.
