Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok has vowed to continue disbursing bursaries to needy students in the county, amid past friction with the Senate over the program.

Speaking during a public engagement, Barchok said the bursaries have played a crucial role in ensuring that students from underprivileged backgrounds remain in school. He described the initiative as a form of social protection meant to promote educational equity.

“Bursaries have helped many of our children who would otherwise have dropped out. This is not a political tool—it’s a lifeline,” the governor stated.

He warned against politicizing the program and insisted that legal technicalities should not be used to deny learners their right to education.

Barchok assured residents of timely disbursements and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring that no deserving student misses school due to lack of fees.

“I want to assure our students of timely release of bursaries.  Education is the equalizer and as the governor I am committed to ensuring that no deserving student misses school due to lack of fees,” added Barchok.
