The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers, (KUPPET) in Kisumu County Executive Secretary seat has been rounded off to a two horse-race with the incumbent Executive Secretary Zablon Awange and County sports secretary George Osura ready for a fierce battle.
With intense campaigns, every contender has confidence of winning ahead of the polls scheduled for this weekend.
It is reported that both Awange and Osura have embarked on high octane campaigns, applying all strategies in order to win the hearts of members.
Awange, who is out to defend the seat, is banking on his agitation for teachers’ welfare while Osura who is the main challenger is leveraging on his sports development activities within the county.
The executive secretary, in his capacity has taken the lead in vicious fighting against punitive transfers and use of hardship areas as a weapon by some heads of learning institutions.
Awange has also been in the forefront in pushing for better medical cover while noting that a number of teachers have lost their lives due to improper medical attention.

He said the best thing the government can do for teachers is giving them a comprehensive medical cover and not SHA which he noted is bureaucratic at the end of the day.
The combative official, says that those teachers who have attained the age of fifty and above in the same grade must be promoted.
“President William Ruto ordered that police constables who have attained the age of fifty without being promoted should benefit from the same automatically, the same should apply to teachers” he said.
Awange said in Kisumu that even deputy head teachers who have been in that position for many years should be considered.
He warned education officers against meddling in the election exercise.
Awange said the government should look into the welfare of junior school teachers with the aim being engaging them on permanent basis.
He said the same cadre should be granted autonomy by the government.
