Avoid meddling with private institutions, Ruto warns politicians

By Benedict Ng’etich

Former Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has told off politicians who interfere with the running of private institutions in Kericho County.
Speaking at the Kipsigis TTC during its 8th graduation ceremony, the fiery politician castigated local leaders who he claimed were hell-bent on ruining the reputation of learning institutions deemed to be supporting their political opponents.
“I want to take this opportunity to put on notice leaders who tend to interfere and threaten the survival of our private institutions. We learned that the leadership of this college was warned against inviting a particular guest of honour which in a democracy is not acceptable at all”, he said.
He was reacting to a cry by the Executive Chairman of the College Bishop Joseph Tanui who blamed some unnamed politicians for threatening them after inviting Baringo Senator Gedion Moi as the Chief Guest during the graduation. Moi however did not turn up due to other commitments.
While giving his speech Bishop Tanui had complained that to reach the local leadership was impossible.
He urged the county leaders to come to the assistance of such private ventures because eventually they were beneficial to the community.
He took the opportunity to thank the Kericho County Governor Prof. Paul Chepkwony who had promised to donate some computers to the institution.
Bishop Tanui emphatically pleaded with the Kipsigis community leadership to start planning for the establishment of a Kipsigis University either in Bomet or Kericho County.
