Authorities have raised concerns over the rising cases of defilement in Koibatek Sub-county, Baringo County.
Speaking in Mosomboriet, Torongo, Assistant County Commissioner Judy Cheruiyot warned against the growing trend as many perpetrators are escaping justice through out-of-court settlements, calling for firm action to curb the vice.
Cheruiyot faulted some parents—particularly mothers—for agreeing to settle such serious cases outside the legal system despite being aware of the long-term consequences.
“Such matters are grave and should be handled in courts of law. Victims deserve justice, and offenders must face the full force of the law,” she said.

Cheruiyot emphasized that defilement has far-reaching effects on victims and communities, urging stakeholders to work together to address the issue.
Area Police Commander Benard Indeke echoed her sentiments, warning that the law provides strict penalties for offenders.
He called on members of the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies in reporting and pursuing such cases.
“We will not allow these cases to be resolved at home. Anyone found engaging in such arrangements will face legal consequences,” Indeke said.
