Mothers in Narok South have been urged to ensure their infants receive all necessary vaccinations on time to protect them from preventable diseases.
Narok South Deputy County Commissioner, Charles Owino, emphasised the importance of timely immunisation, warning that avoiding vaccines puts children’s health at serious risk.
“Vaccination boosts the immune system and should never be neglected,” Owino said “We are concerned by the high number of infants who have missed essential vaccinations.”
Speaking in the Ololulunga area, he called on mothers to visit health facilities regularly and ensure their children receive the required medical care at the appropriate time.

His remarks were echoed by Richard Lemein, a health officer at Ololulunga Hospital, who reiterated the critical role of vaccines in child development.
“It is vital for newborns to be vaccinated according to the national health schedule,” Lemein said. “Mothers must work closely with elders to follow proper medical procedures.”
Community leader David Ntutu on his part observed that in many cases, important responsibilities are left solely to mothers, urging fellow elders to take an active role in child welfare.
“Too often, fathers and community elders leave everything to the mothers,” Ntutu said. “We must be accountable and lead from the front to ensure our children are vaccinated.”
Health officials also expressed concern over low vaccination rates in the region and called for collective efforts to address the issue.
“We need collaboration from all stakeholders—parents, elders, and community leaders—to raise awareness and improve vaccine coverage,” Lemein added.
The officials are now working on strategies to engage more families and ensure that no child is left behind when it comes to essential healthcare.
