Aspirant pledges to ensure fair bursary disbursement

Matungulu parliamentary aspirant Peter Mutiso has pledged to ensure fairness and transparency in bursary disbursement through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

Speaking at Kinyui market, Mutiso disclosed that while in school, he benefited from a bursary award after losing his parents and therefore knows of how much help it can be to underprivileged children.

“Despite the struggles of life as an orphan, I was able to finish my primary and secondary education because of bursaries and well-wishers,” he said.

“The availability of the state-run Higher Education Loans Board fund, just like for other students, was the game-changer in my university education that gave me a chance to pay for my Master’s degree from my own pocket,” he added.

He criticised the manner in which the incumbent, Stephen Mule, has been issuing bursaries noting that many bright children from poor backgrounds were discriminated against.

The outspoken politician also faulted the flat rate of Sh2,500 introduced by the MP arguing that some students needed more.

Mutiso promised to come up with a strategy that will ensure no child stays at home due to lack of school fees, adding that hundreds of students complained to him that they were missing out on bursary despite applying severally.

“There is an amount you can give to someone and will be like a drop in the ocean, I have heard a lot of complaints; I promise to do things differently when elected,” he said.
