Salawa Division Assistant County Commissioner Johnson Mbithi has directed all chiefs to mop up the villages and apprehend school dropouts.

The ACC who was addressing a public Baraza in Salawa divisional headquarters said all the children who have dropped out of school should be taken back.

“We are not going to relent on the fight against school dropout.

I direct all chiefs and their assistants in my jurisdiction to liaise with the village elders in order to get the dropouts.

This operation is duped “operation back to school”, Said the administrator.

The administrator was reacting to sentiments by Kimoso sub-location residents that many children had dropped out of school and were loitering in market centers.

Mbithi however, warned parents who have abdicated their parental responsibility that they will be summoned to show cause as to why severe cause of action shouldn’t be taken against them.

He also disclosed that the Office of the Interior and Coordination of Government has disbursed food supplies to all primary schools to retain learners in school.

He said that all primary schools had been given maize and beans to accommodate schools for forty days.

The administrator further directed the chiefs to arrest all brewers of illicit liquor so that they can face the law.

Mbithi at the same time directed all school head teachers to register all pupils under The National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) so that schools can benefit from government funding.

“I call upon head teachers to submit the list of the names of all parents who fail to register their children in this portal so that I  summon them to know why they were not doing so,” said Mbithi.

Baringo Central Adult Basic Education sub-County officer Richard Kiplimo said the Ministry of Education will soon open Salawa Adult Education Centre adding that the ministry has deployed teachers already.

The National Hospital Insurance Fund Manager Mr Benson Ketton urged parents to register their children in the  Unified Payments interface (UPI) to benefit from The National Hospital Insurance fund Medical cover when their children seek treatment.

In attendance were head teachers of schools including AIC Philemon Chelagat Girls Secondary School Mrs Joan Zaddy, Curriculum Support Staff Salawa Zone Mrs. Monica Kandie among other invited guests.
