President William Ruto has been urged to appoint a person who is well versed with education matters and a scholar in the education sector to lead the Ministry of Education as a Cabinet Secretary.

Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Migori Branch Executive Secretary Samuel Orwa Jasolo reiterated such a person will effectively lead the sector in the country, considering the current transformation the country is undergoing of the changes in its education system and other reforms contained in the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms (PWPER) report.

“The president should pick an educationist to lead the Education sector in Kenya. Such a person possesses a deep understanding of the education system, its challenges, and potential solutions; expertise in educational policies, curriculum development, teacher training, and classroom management,” said Jasolo.

“An educationist will have much more passion for improving education quality and committed to ensuring that every child receives a quality education. By appointing an educationist as the CS, the government can ensure that the Ministry of Education is effectively managed and that the necessary reforms are implemented to address the current challenges and improve the overall education system in the country,” he added.

His sentiments comes after the National Assembly Committee on Appointments led by Speaker Moses Wetangula approved the appointment of 19 Cabinet nominees who were vetted last week including that of Education nominee Julius Migos Ogamba, and only rejecting the appointment of Stella Soi Langat as the Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, Arts and Heritage.

Ogamba, who was former Education CS Ezekiel Machogu’s running mate in Kisii gubernatorial seat during the previous general elections and Senior Advocate revealed during his vetting that  that he is worth Ksh790 million.

The former Chairperson of the Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen) is an Advocate at Migos Ogamba & Waudo Advocates, boasting over 25 years in practice.
