The Intern Teachers – Kenya national interim secretary general has called for patient among Junior Secondary School (JSS) intern teachers amid Permanent and Pensionable (PnP) terms confirmation push.

In a circular dated November 5, 2025, Secretary General Ismael Kibaron expressed gratitude to the more than 20,000 intern teachers across the country for their continued dedication and advocacy—both online and offline—in pushing for government confirmation.

“We have begun to see encouraging progress,” Kibaron stated, noting that the recent comments by senior government figures signal that their persistent efforts are beginning to bear fruit.

He also acknowledged the encouraging remarks made by top government officials, including Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi and Parliamentary Education Committee Chairman, Julius Melly, regarding the anticipated conversion of intern teachers to permanent and pensionable (PnP) terms.

He, however, cautioned interns against celebrating prematurely, stressing that official confirmation will only be realized once the government formally advertises the PnP positions and includes all intern teachers.

“As we all understand, this is Kenya—sometimes what is said and what is done may differ,” the statement read in part.

Kibaron further urged all intern teachers to maintain decorum and professionalism as they continue advocating for their rights, warning that the use of harsh or disrespectful language could undermine their collective cause.

“Let us maintain polite, respectful language at all times. Rudeness or hostility will only derail our cause,” he advised.

The Secretary General’s message follows Treasury CS Mbadi’s recent assurance that the government plans to start the confirmation process after the KCSE examinations, with the full conversion expected to be completed before January 2026.

Kibaron concluded by commending the unity and resilience shown by intern teachers nationwide, encouraging them to remain steadfast until the government’s verbal promises translate into tangible action.

“Thank you once again for your dedication, unity, and professionalism,” he wrote, adding that patience and civility will remain key as they await official communication from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
