Police on patrol in Itetani base responded swiftly to aid members of the public together with students and teachers in putting off a razing fire at a dormitory in Itetani girl’s secondary school on Tuesday night leaving destruction of property of unknown value.
The students we lucky because at the time of the fire broke out (at 2115 hours), they were coming from classes and were all safe since the fire and managing to salvage few items as the fire razed the rest. According to police report, the cause of fire is still unknown but investigations have started.
This comes few weeks after Makueni County commissioner Mohammed Maalim warned learners to desist from such behaviours saying they are ruining their lives.
He gave an example of two schools recently burnt by learners. AIC Mwaani-Ilima and Kikumini secondary all mixed schools where students burnt the dorms.
Maalim gave a stern warning that the students will face it rough and might ruin their life’s completely. He said such crimes will not be tolerated wondering why would a child burn and organize burning of any school property worth millions of shillings as if burning will solve anything.
He called upon school heads to be vigilant appealing to them to have dialogues with learners and solve their problems amicably.
