Anindo Primary School in Awendo, Migori County, is set to undergo expansion as part of the government’s Affordable Housing programme (AHP). This expansion comes as a gift to the school following the launch of the KSh 750 million Affordable Housing project in the area
The school has been earmarked for infrastructural upgrades to accommodate an expected surge in student enrolment. The surge is anticipated as hundreds of families are expected to move into the 293 in probably a year.
While addressing the media, education officials confirmed that the expansion shall include additional classrooms, upgraded sanitation facilities as well as improved learning spaces. The officials state that the move is to ensure that societal well being is kept in mind when carrying out urban development plans.

During the ground breaking ceremony for the Awendo affordable housing project, President Ruto emphasized that the housing initiative is not just about shelter but about building an inclusive society.
“We are empowering families, and that means ensuring their children have access to quality education close to home,” he said.
The school upgrade also complements the AHP’s skills development agenda, which includes on-site training in construction-related fields.
In the meantime, local youth and artisans will benefit from hands-on experience and certification through the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA).
