Alumni of Kitale National Polytechnic, located in Trans Nzoia County, have expressed strong opposition to the removal of the institution’s principal, Akola John Otieno.

Otieno takes the reins at Kisii National Polytechnic in the same capacity.

They want the Ministry of Education to rescind the decisions and have the outgoing principal return to the school to continue with projects.

In a letter written yesterday, the association said the decision to transfer the principal has sparked discontent among alumni, staff, and the community.

They explained the reasons behind their protests, citing ongoing projects that the outgoing principal has initiated to improve academic standards, the institution’s infrastructure, and students’ welfare. They argue that it will be fair for the principal to be given time to complete the current projects, as his transfer could disrupt the continuity and progress of these initiatives.

They also state that establishing positive and productive working relationships with students, alumni, staff, and the whole community has resulted in institutions witnessing improvements in various areas, citing fairness in employment opportunities for individuals within and outside the institutions.

Lastly, they point out that the the immediate transfer of the principal in the middle of the term has raised questions and concerns. Such a significant change should ideally occur at the end of the term to ensure a seamless transition and avoid disrupting the ongoing projects and the progress of the students.

To this end, they said, “We strongly urge the Ministry of Education to reconsider the decision and allow Akola to continue his services at Kitale National Polytechnic until the logical conclusion of his projects and term.”
