Allow children to make their own career choices, parents urged

By Enock Okong’o

Parents have been urged to guide their children towards making the right career choices instead of forcing them to do careers they do not desire.

Speaking to form one parents at St Paul’s Gekano Boys High School, the school principal Albert Ombiro gave examples of internationally acclaimed Historian Prof Ali Mazrui and former  Vice Chancellor of  Kenyatta University Prof George Edhiesni, who set their academic goals in form one and followed them persistently to succeed.

Ombiro likened students to growing plants that could be thwarted in growth if good fertilizers aren’t used.

He also urged parents to provide basic needs to their children so as to discourage theft among students.

Ombiro, who was transferred to the school last year, expressed optimism that the school’s mean would rise from 6.5 to 7.0 in this year’s KCSE examinations.

He said that the school suffered from overstretched dormitories, classrooms and poor payment of school fees.

However, he thanked the local community and the NG-CDF, who have shown unreserved good will to the school.
