Adult literacy students learn under trees

Eighty per cent of adult education learners in Tana River County are forced to learn under trees due to lack of classrooms.
Tana River County Director of Adult Education Daniel Birir said lack of modern infrastructure has highly affected enrolment of adult learners at the literacy centres.
He lamented that many adult learners in the area are currently reluctant to attend lessons at the literacy centres simply because they have nowhere to sit and take their lessons effectively.
Birir said most of the adult learners sit on logs, stones and dusty floors while learning.
He said the situation has led to low enrolment at the literacy centres in the county.
He urged adult education stakeholders in the region to equip the literacy centres with the essential learning facilities to enable the adult learners learn under healthy environment.
