Sub county Adult Education Officers in Kwale county have been asked to form advisory committees to recruit more adult learners to join literacy centres in a bid to enhance education standards in the region.
Speaking to Education News from Kwale town recently, the county Director of Adult Education David Thengele asked all adult education stakeholders in the area to team up in order to ensure adult education programmes are a success.
He also urged political leaders to create awareness campaigns to encourage adult learners to enroll in large numbers together with youth who dropped out of school so they can continue their education.
“You should encourage your children who dropped out of school to join literacy centres in large numbers to continue their education,” he said.
At the same time, Thengele disclosed that lack of adequate funding by the national government was a major stumbling block towards supervision and inspection of literacy centres in the area and asked local administrators to look into the matter.
He noted that education is the only key that would spearhead development in the county.
