African Canadian Continuing Education Society (ACCES) Kenya has presented scholarships award to 100 students from Busia, Vihiga, Bungoma and Kakamega to further their education at higher learning centres; Universities, Tertiary Colleges and Technical Vocational Education and Training Institutions (TVET).
Speaking via a virtual link from Canada during the Western region ACCES Kenya 2021 Post-Secondary Scholarships Awards held at the Bukhungu International Stadium, the Executive Director for ACCES Mr. Kevin Faddum Urged the students to take the scholarship seriously and work hard to achieve their dreams.
He also gave his special thanks to the organizers of the event and partners for making the Program a success in Kenya and congratulated the beneficiaries for securing the scholarship.
“As students, expect tough times during this journey but I urge you to focus more on your studies and not the challenges,” Mr. Faddum said.
Kakamega Deputy Governor Prof. Philip Kutima who graced the occasion thanked the Organization for initiating the program saying many qualified students from humble backgrounds will access quality education and achieve their lifetime dreams.
“Your future will be determined by yourself, most of us here came from poor backgrounds where going to school was not valued.
Personally I didn’t know that one day the world would refer to me as Professor but now you can see where I am as a professor and deputy governor.
Please be our excellent ambassadors out there by upholding good morals and working extra hard in your studies,” Prof. Kutima advised the students.
Kakamega County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Education, Science and Technology Dr. George Lutomia encouraged the learners to apply for the Kakamega County HELB Loan to enable them pay their tuition fees on time and urged them to observe high discipline during their studies.
His counterpart at the Social Services, Sports, Youth, Women Empowerment and Culture Mr. Kassim Were said his ministry will liaise with ACCES team on ground in identifying the most vulnerable families to benefit from the scholarships.
He advised the students to remain humble even after successfully completing their education.
Also present were, Chief Officers, Dr. Irene Ashioya (Education) and CPA John Imbogo (SSSYWEC), Director ACCES Kenya Dr. Anthony Mutevane, Chairman ACCES Kenya Mr. Pape Sembi with his Board Members and Staff, guardians, all who encouraged the learners to always aim higher in their academics.
