The Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) Trans Nzoia County chapter has congratulated veteran teacher Jamila Cherotin on her retirement after dedicating over 40 years to the noble profession. Dominic Kiboi, KNUT Executive Secretary for Trans Nzoia County, expressed his gratitude and admiration for Cherotin’s selfless service, particularly at Chepchoina Primary School in Endebess Sub-County.

“On behalf of KNUT Trans Nzoia, I thank Jamila Cherotin for her tireless efforts in shaping the minds of future generations,” Kiboi said. “Congratulations on your well-deserved retirement! May this new chapter be filled with joy, peace, and fulfilment.”

Kiboi praised Cherotin’s contributions as a counsellor and mentor to many students and colleagues. “Jamila is a good counsellor who has mentored many, and her legacy will live on,” he said. “She is a shining example of what it means to be a dedicated and passionate educator.”

However, Kiboi expressed disappointment with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for failing to recognize Cherotin’s contributions and dedication. “TSC has done badly in not promoting her despite being a good advisor,” he said. “This is a stark reminder of the challenges faced by many deserving teachers who are often overlooked for promotions and recognition.”

Kiboi also urged the government to consider the welfare of male teachers, who he said are languishing in terms of rights and opportunities. “The ratio of men to lady teachers is wide, and it’s time the government considered male teachers in all spheres,” he said. “We need to support our male colleagues and ensure they are treated fairly and with dignity.”

The KNUT official emphasized the importance of maintaining professionalism among teachers, saying it was key to earning respect and trust from the community. “As teachers, we must always strive to maintain the highest standards of professionalism, even in the face of adversity,” he said.

As Cherotin begins her retirement, Kiboi wishes her well and expresses gratitude for her service. “We will miss her dedication and passion for teaching, but we’re also excited for her as she embarks on a new chapter in her life,” he said. “May she enjoy her retirement and may her legacy inspire us all to continue striving for excellence in our profession.”
