A cannibal preying on school children narrowly escape lynch in West Pokot

A suspected cannibal recently caught preying on school going children was narrowly rescued by police after charged crowd caught him luring kids to his trap in Lomut area, West Pokot.

The suspect was reportedly caught attempting to lure minors who were tending to a farm (shamba).

According to eyewitnesses, the man had a roll of cello tape, which he allegedly intended to use to silence the children by taping their mouths.

Alert residents quickly intervened, surrounding the suspect before he could carry out any harm. Fueled by anger and fear, the crowd was moments away from lynching him when police officers arrived and rescued the man, swiftly taking him into custody.

However, the situation escalated further as a furious mob stormed the local police station, demanding immediate justice and threatening to burn the suspect alive. Police were forced to use teargas to disperse the angry crowd.

This disturbing case has reignited fears among parents and guardians in the region, with many expressing growing concerns over the safety of their children amid rising cases of suspected cannibalism and predatory behavior.

Kenya National Union of Teachers, KNUT West Pokot Executive Secretary Martin Sembelo has asked all residents to be vigilant about child kidnappings that have spread like bushfire across the county.

Residents are now calling on the government and justice system to take decisive action by ensuring that such suspects face the full force of the law. They are also urging authorities to enhance security measures and conduct thorough investigations to prevent such alarming incidents in the future.

This is another case after thirteen people were arrested for alleged cannibalism activity in the county whereby six suspects confessed of abducting and killing juveniles for the purpose of organ harvesting and cannibalism.
